  • Mid-1964: All guitars and basses had the new Transitional Decal since mid-1965.
  • Late 1964 Nitrocelluloid Mint Green Pickguards was changed out to ABS White Plastic
  • Late 1964: Gray Fiber bobbins on pickups started to appear in, dated by hand or yellow ink stamp..
  • Fall 1965: Vulcaniced fiber (clay dots) was changed out to plastic  pearloid dots features by fall-1965. Same for side-dots
  • December 1965: Headstock changed from small to large
  • December 1965: Also changed was neckplate, that started having the “F” stamp, Also abandoning LXXXXX serial to 6-digits starting at 100000
  • More moderate contours on the bodies.
  • Because of trade embargo, Brazilian Rosewood changed to Indian Rosewood
  • String tree spacer switched to nylon/plastic
  • CBS started to offer 2-piece Maple fretboards for custom order
