The International was a short lived line that put some fresh colors on the palette. The name of the colors all had geographical references, hence the name "International". Except for Arctic White and the two Bursts, these colors has not been used by Fender USA since. Fender Japan reissued the line in 2022 using most of the same colors.
The International Series sold little at a time when CBS had declining quality with their Fender products.
Model# Beginning after CBS era, All Fenders got a model identifier number. Divided by Fretboard and Orientation.
Lacquer: Lacquer (Polyurethane, Nitrocellulose or Polyester usually) with Top Finish (Satin or Gloss)
Shape: Body carve. If standard body carve is modified or altered, this will tell you
Contour: How deep the belly, forearm carves are. 1957 Vintage Strats are considered to have the deepest contours. These contours changed over the years.
Pickguard: Style of pickguards, color and hole numbers sorted by color codes which has what. If only one type PG is listed, it tells you its on all models.
Serial: This tells you where on the guitar the serial is, and what serial index it has.
Wood: What type of wood the neck is made of, also what cut orientation. Flat Sawn, Rift Sawn and Quartersawn is most common.
Fretboard: The type of wood used in the fretboard. Most common are Rosewood or Maple. Also Ebony and Mahogany occurs.
Fret Markers: The markers on the fretboard. This tell you material and what shape is used. Most common are dots
Neck Finish: What sort of lacquer and finish layer used, (Gloss or Satin). This annotates ONLY the backside of the neck
Neck Shape: The typical neck profile used. (ex: C, D or U Shape) Does not give thickness measure, only tells if its thick or thin.
Neck Depth: This gives the thickness at 1st fret and 12th fret of the neck. Measured from top wood to back wood (Excluding Fret size)
Headstock: Tells you if it has the classic style or the CBS Large headstock. Also anotated is the headstock finish (Gloss or Satin)
Nut Width: How wide it is at the nut. This can vary as most necks are finished by hand. Can vary even more on older pre-FMIC models.
Scale: Scale is the string length from nut to saddle. 25.5” is the standard Fender scale.
Radius: How arched the fretboard is. the vintage original radius 7.25 is the most curved fretboards, while Gibson style 12” is the flattest.
