NOTES: Dupont Duco Automotive color used on Cadillacs.

Custom color available from 1960 to 1965

Used every now and then by Fender today on all all branches, but they mostly prefer Sonic Blue

OLYMPIC WHITE

NOTES: Dupont Duco Acrylic (Lucite)

Introduced March 1958 and made famous by Hendrix when playing his Olympic White in Woodstock.

Notoriously known to age into yellow over time on Nitro Guitars.

NOTES:  No exact year is know for when Fender introduced it officially. early 1951 there were a couple of Broadcasters made in Black and scrapped. But the earliest Fender sold in Black is from 1955, which is The Howard Reed Stratocaster

OCEAN TURQUOISE

NOTES: Ocean Turquoise was another Automotive color used on Mercury Cars. It was never a popular color and was discontinued from Fender in 1971. Even today Fender rarely use it.

FIREMIST SILVER

Introduced same year CBS took over Fender in 1965 and discontinued in 1971

Custom color only. And rarely used by Fender today except from Custom Shop

This color replaced Shoreline Gold in 1965.

FIESTA RED

DUPONT CODE: Duco 2219-H

TYPE: Solid Acrylic

FIRST APPEARED: 1958


NOTES: This color is one of the most classic finishes from Fender. The almost pastel-like color is really hard to pinpoint. Often comes in shades like salmon-pink from factories. Used on Fords and Cadillacs, this color never seems to drop in popularity. Made famous by Hank Marvin and Mark Knopfler.

SHORELINE GOLD

DUPONT CODE: Lucite 2935-L

TYPE: Solid Metallic

FIRST APPEARED: 1959


NOTES: This slightly pale gold color arrived in 1959 as a custom color option.

Used by Pontiac from 1958 up to 1965. After that it was harder for Fender to acquire and was replaced by Firemist Gold Metallic.

TEAL GREEN METALLIC

FIRST APPEARED: 1965


NOTES: Used on ’62 Ford and Licoln cars and appeared in the automotive world as Riviera Turquoise Metallic or Patrician Green.

Introduced in the CBS era. Rare to find one vintage guitar in this color.

SHERWOOD GREEN METALLIC

TYPE: Pigmented Solid Metallic

FIRST APPEARED: 1960


NOTES: Exists in 14 different shades in the automotive world. But Fender only has used one, the darker shade one.

Used on ’57 Lincoln Mercury cars.

Fender discontinued it in 1965 by CBS. Rarely used by Fender, a very collectible color in the vintage market.

FOAM GREEN (SEAFOAM GREEN)

TYPE: Solid Metallic

FIRST APPEARED: 1960


NOTES: This was a Buick color in 1956.

A stronger color than Surf Green. Used more by Fender from 1960 to 1965., but was avaliable as custom color before that. However, very rare in the vintage market Strats. Known today as simply Foam Green back then, but adapted Seafoam Green later.

Surf Green had taken over this color by the 70s , 80s and 90s. Only recently it has made a comeback.

SHELL PINK

TYPE: Solid

FIRST APPEARED: 1956


NOTES: A DeSoto color in 1956.

A very experimental color used by Fender ONLY rarely in 1956, then was a custom color from 1960 to 1963.. The Candy Apple Red was more or less its successor. This color often darkens to Salmon Pink-like shade as the top lacquer ages.

Slightly more greenish than Foam green, and less intense.

A firey red color.  Similar to Candy Apple Red, but without the gold/silver metallic sparkle.

Hints of faded purple and faded plum color. Arrived as a custom color at Fender in 1960 up to 1965

NOTES: A ’65 Lincoln Color.

Sparkly grey color.  Was a custom color for just a year from ’65 to ’66.  Can get greenish over time.

NOTES: You could find this sky inspired color on Cadillacs from 1956 and Chryslers from 1958. Like Daphne Blue it is more lighter shaded.

metallic light frosy color.  A rare color used by Fender. 

Has a habbit of turning more turquoise green over time.

NOTES: Used by Fender only once, and never used since. Its a Buick color that appeared the same year.
